Groundhog_Day

Hungry at 5:46am. Not for food or
forms of nutrition. Resistance. Voice.

Impact. Normal stuff. Spring’s warm
fingertips begin to break winter’s grip.

Temps start to feel like distant cousins,
stopping by on their routes home or

mama’s sweet potato pies around the
holidays. The sum of man is his reactions

to adverse conditions, to the ways broken
men wield power in the belly of a beast—

poker face for the end times. Drop them
bombs on school buildings and hide the

evidence. Hide hands. Cross fingers.
Develop false narratives. Blame others,

like savages of the first world. I stir in
my aminos, looking for answers to US

imperialism beyond the rich brown liquid,
circling a porcelain, green mug.
